How to build a social media audience when you're not much of a poster?
Post Body

To start with, there are only a few social media sites I frequent: Twitter, Tumblr, and Instagram (respectively).

  • I use Twitter just to browse, but I do follow a few authors and youtubers (non-relevant to my post, but ah well). I feel like I could get the most out of this platform, since I'm on it so much.

  • I also use Tumblr for browsing. I've cross-posted from Instagram time to time, but it was on a whim of the moment rather than something I planned to do.

  • Instagram is where I post picture quotes. They're all from Sparknotes, and I might put a caption in the description, but otherwise I'm mostly a browser on there as well.

I'm just not sure where to start with putting myself out there. I'm not one for posting a lot of pictures of myself or my work. I'm pretty much at home all the time (I'm still in school; entering my final year of high school). I don't have the most upkempt working space (enter messy room).

I could see myself making an effort if I knew what to do with these platforms. Even seeing the posts from other bookstagrams and book-twitters(?), it doesn't give me a clue. I could post some funny quotes/head-canons/"incorrect quotes" from my characters, but what would be the point if the book's not out yet (and probably won't be for the next... three-four years, depending on when I get the money to have professionals look over and help me with it).

I'd like to have at least a starting base. Enough of an audience that, once my books do come out, I'll have people wanting to buy and spread the word.

But again, I'm not sure where to start. I know social media is not about putting all your information out, but the lives of these people who are JUST published/have an established book review fanbase seem more interesting than mine xD

Any tips?
