So after writing for a bit over six years, with a few forays into small presses and snippets of self-publishing along the way, I am finally ready to dive in fully. I want to run my general plan of attack by people first though, to see what I may be forgetting or other things I need to be considering. So here goes:
May, June, and July I will be publishing a roughly 25k novella each month. I am thinking having the first for .99 cents, and the following two for 2.99 each. They are novellas in a series. August I will release an ebook and print bundle of all three with some bonus content. 6.99 for the ebook bundle, and price to be determined on the print version.
For the products themselves: I am a good writer, but my editing leaves something to be desired. So I am paying a professional editor to go over them. For the covers, I have no graphic design talent, but I have friends with said skills who are making me covers in trade. I know how to do the formatting from past experience. I will be using createspace/KDP, and intend to enroll in KU.
I will then repeat this process every six months or so, so that every year I am coming out with two trilogies of ebooks to bind into a print book. I will likely also be releasing a standalone ebook novella between each trilogy. The spring trilogy will always be in my primary series (a sort of urban fantasy series about a redneck wizard), but the fall trilogy will cycle through my other projects (steampunk, horror, dark fantasy, southern gothic).
I donβt know all the details, but I will be doing some paid ads through amazon. I am planning to do pre-orders to help drive sales the first day. The first book will release on my birthday, so I am planning to try and get all my friends to buy it as a cheap and easy b-day present to me. I also co-host a podcast, so I will promote my works on there as they release. I am also a vendor at cons on occasion both as a writer and podcaster, and will be promoting there as well.
So what am I missing? Where am I messing up?
