I'd like to preface this by saying, I'm not at all unfamiliar with social media. I have accounts, I use them, but never for writing, building a brand, talking about books, etc. I pretty much have/had them for personal use or random interests. Nothing on any accounts have been targeted towards any type of author presence.
I also realize that writing is the priority. Although a daily struggle, I do write everyday and have a handful of projects in several stages of drafts. (Most fiction, with two in the non fiction self help niche) In addition, a good editor, a good cover, etc is probably next most important thing to focus on. (Not here to debate the self publishing priorities to focus on)
For those who were able to build a nice, organic following through social media, what advice would you give for someone starting at ground zero but with social media familiarity? What type of content do you post on social media? Instagram? Twitter? Etc. How do you build a following? I never thought of fiction writers, unless you're a huge name, being a big draw to follow. Non fiction/self help, yes since you can post value to your accounts and create a following that way. But fiction writers? What advice would you give for a fiction writer presence?
