I love to talk about suffering, specifically. Suffering means growth to me and a lot of other people. At the same time, suffering is something really bad for another group of people - and that's okay also.
It's good to feel happy from time to time, but being always a happy person is good only on the surface. Being always happy and comfortable will leave us with a lot of suffering in the future, which again will drive us to self improvement. You cannot stop growing even if you want. The only path is forward, no matter how you see life.
Do what you believe is right, no matter how you feel
That's my philosophy for life right now. I've done that before, but it was never a conscious decision.
If you want to get in better shape, you should workout right? Good. At the beginning you feel motivated, excited, you want to see results. After a couple of days or weeks, you will understand that working out is something very uncomfortable. You will find something better to do and you will feel sad going to workout.
This will stop you from working out and you will never reach the goal to have great shape, just because you choose comfort over discomfort (suffering).
Feelings shouldn't stop you
Forget about the feelings. Have a list of things you want to accomplish or you want to stick to. Ignore the excitement at the beginning also. If you focus on the good feelings, you will lose yourself in the bad feelings. Let the feelings be and do what is right for you.
No matter how you feel, stick to your plan.
