Does practicing gratitude work? If so, why?

I get in and out of the habit of practicing gratitude. Usually I'll shoot for 3 things to write down. Most times I can get 1 or 2 before I have to think about it and come back for the rest.

I do this because I want to cultivate good energy. I want to train my brain to operate on that more relaxed, in tune and trusting wavelength. Gratitude is essentially the opposite energy of fear and worry.

I was about to write this post and realized I was in a bit of a mood tonight. I looked over and saw the list of gratitude I wrote down this morning, read it again and it completely changed my vibe. My mind had this weight on it and just looking back at what I wrote down this morning pulled me out of it.

I'm going to try to flesh out my theory on why I think gratitude increases your ability to manifest. The word manifestation gets thrown around a lot these days. Wikipedia says

"Manifestation (or manifesting) refers to various pseudoscientific self-help strategies intended to bring about a personal goal, primarily by focusing one's thoughts upon the desired outcome. The techniques are based on the law of attraction of New Thought spirituality.[1] While the process involves positive thinking, or even directing requests to "the universe",[2] it also involves action-steps on the part of the individual.

The starting point of this theory being focused thoughts upon the desired outcome. What better way to do that than to train your brain to be grateful so you can be optimistic enough to get the outcome you want.

The term manifestation sounds like some magical bullshit but it's actually just like that saying - Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.

Gratitude puts me in the state of mind where I can feel a big calmer and see a bit clearer. That state of mind is in itself preparation for good things to happen. Those opportunities might be a little bit clearer if you mentally stretch for them.

I haven't been in this habit for a long time and honestly I'm getting back into it because there's a few things I need to overcome to be where I gotta be. What think you?
