Hello everyone! Back again with a few more words of advice. For those that don't know me, I am an online based clinical hypnotherapist; I work with men to help them overcome psychologically based ED. That means that you have spoken to your doctor and found no medical reason for your ED. The reasons for this are varied... from porn induced, to trauma, to performance anxiety, it is far more common an issue than many realize.
Based upon my work, I'd like to offer you all some advice. To begin with, there is little to be accomplished by simply quitting pornography or masturbation. If anything, this is potentially harmful. You see, when we have a habit (good or bad) it is a self-soothing behavior. Something your subconscious has associated as an action that eases a need or pain inside you. Simply stopping will leave a gap that needs to be filled and when we are unaware of it, what fills that gap can be just as harmful.
Both psych and PIED are event based. This means that there is an association made at some point in your life that these behaviors made you feel better; sometimes we fixate on what eases our discomfort. To speak on the opposite end, with psych ED the event is negative. Often it is a single experience that causes the dysfunction and every encounter after has so much anticipation of it happening again that it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
The answer is not in simply stopping a behavior, taking a pill or worse when it comes to erectile dysfunction that doesn't have a medical reason. I see alot of very... fringe... solutions in this group and as someone who sees men overcome this problem long term on a near daily basis it saddens me. I understand the confusion and the fear, but the answers are in your mind. They always are. When you can find those answers, you regain a part of yourself.
For those of you frustrated and angry, I get it. This is a scary problem to many. Take comfort in knowing both that you are not alone and that this problem can be overcome. The answers are not simple and the work sometimes not easy, but you can do this. If no one else has faith that you can, I do.
I welcome any questions you may have and wish you all only the best.
