Is being mute out of spite considered selective mutism?

Post Body

Hi everyone! When I was in the middle school, I had something akin to selective mutism, as I wouldn't verbally respond to anyone, either teachers or other pupils. However, I did talk in some situations when I felt like I really wanted to (for instance, when I needed to voice out my opinion on a topic that's important to me), and I think that my state was more caused by feeling the pressure to talk and I have this personality trait where I want to do everything in reverse of what is strictly told, i.e. it wasn't out of social anxiety. Is it correct to refer to those years as "I had selective mutism", or it would be wrong?
