Woran erkenne ich, dass die Decke "abgehangen" ist?

Nennt man das so? Also dass irgendwie ein Freiraum darin ist. Ich würde gerne eine massivere Lampe mit Haken an der Decke befestigen, aber bin mir beim Bohren in Decken nie sicher, ob ich alles richtig mache. Kann mir da wer Tipps geben?
