Three weeks ago was my first ever speed dating event. It took place in a nice brunch suite in Santa Monica. Having the nervous breakdown I still went alone to my first event. I got there 15 minutes early to get the scope of the venue. And surprise surprise: only the men showed up on formal time. It felt like the middle school dance again, where I was nervous in talking to new people while we wait for the event to start lol

Once there was enough women that came in, they started the speed dating session: five minutes to talk to another, while the men rotate and the women stayed.

I have to say, it was pretty amazing to talk to women given how it wasn’t that bad. Sure there were a few bad or shall I say crazy apples in the patch. But most of them were humble. Some even from another country. Some even fit my preferences down to the T( grew up as an only child, watches anime, go to raves)

Anyways here’s the part where I found out I messed up recently:

Once the speed dating sesh ended, everyone was free to go or stay and mingle. Fearing that if I stay and talked to the last girl I talked to, the other women would see that and won’t talk to me. So I left, turned in my paper( indicating which girls I liked/don’t like) and left

There was an email saying that if there was a mutual match then I would get s follow up. I still haven’t gotten s follow up to this day

What I learned from this experience is that everyone is looking for the same reason. There were white tall dudes from Malibu, a chick from Mexico whose guy friend made her come with him to this event, female Roomies that went together, a chick from the navy, a women who went after doing errands last minute, and women who I thought were out of my league were there too! Everyone is searching for a connection despite what background they have, and this is coming from a Hispanic dude under 6 feet
