sorry about the length
I'm working for a security company and don't have a permanent site.
I signed up for two assignments this week, both at the same site.
One is Mon-Wed 9am to 530pm
the other is thurs and fri 9am to 830pm
At 530 pm today, Monday, the person in charge of the bank (a client employee not a security company employee) told me that I can't leave yet and am supposed to wait until the workers are done.
I wasn't told this, the email I got telling me about my assignment told me that my shift ends at 530pm. I wasn't able to leave either because the doors of the site were locked and I wasn't able to get my things and go.
I ended up leaving at 550 pm, an extra 20 mins of work. Over the course of 5 days this adds up to an extra hour and 40 minutes, time that I'm guessing I won't be paid for since it isn't officially included in my shift. Who knows if in the following days it'll take 20 minutes, it might take more, I think they might've let me go at 550 because it was clear to them that I was unhappy, and surprised that I am supposed to stay after 530, so I'm not sure if they'll make me stay for longer in the following days. The lady in charge said that she will talk to the security company about how I didn't know I was supposed to stay longer than I was told.
I'm already spending 2 hours bussing to the site, and 2 hours back, so adding an extra 20 mins of work is really pissing me off.
I plan on calling my scheduler and telling them I won't be taking the thurs-fri assignment, but what should I do about the mon-wed assignment I'm already in the middle of? I was planning on telling him that I want to be paid for the extra time I'll be working (if its 20 mins tomorrow and wednesday, then it will add up to an hour total over the course of these three days) but am uncertain if i'll get it since I probably don't have a lot of leverage.
I'm a student so I don't care about this job that much, but still don't want to ruin my relationship with this company, so I plan on finishing my first assignment, the last day of which is wednesday.
