How strict is the Dec 21st shipping deadline?

First time Santa here. The gift that I ordered might get to me too late for me to still post it to the giftee in time for the Dec 21st deadline. Should that happen, what happens? Would I get banned from future exchanges?

Thoughts on what I should do? I could just order some arbitrary additional gift from Amazon in time for the deadline and then ship the real gift later, but that seems like a waste (the real gift is personalized). I signed up to Secret Santa early and wish I could have been matched earlier - two weeks was not enough time, with everything going on.
