Covid sucks! But I'm sure you all know that. This past year I participated in Secret Santa for the first time and was just blown away by my Santa's generosity. My experience ended up becoming one of the more clicked on Secret Santa posts for the 2019 exchange. I received so many nice messages and thoughtful comments from a lot of you, so I wanted to give an update to anyone interested in my story.
First things first, my Santa and I have become really close, we talk and text all the time. My Santa is one of my favorite people in the world. A real friend. We had plans to meet in person in early March but coronavirus derailed that. I was unable to get on a plane and visit. We will meet soon.
In my letter to Santa, I had written "I wrote about how I tend to hold myself back from doing many of the things I want to do in life because I don't want to 3rd wheel my friends. That I want to travel the world but have been non-stop working since I graduated college and that I fear going alone." So my Santa gave me some cash and said book the trip.
And......... I booked it, I should actually be returning from the trip today (sad face) but!, common theme here covid has fucked it up!!!! I planned a cruise that would have sailed me around Europe. I would have seen France, Spain, and Italy. Santa was even going to send me to a Michelin star restaurant, (I know I am spoiled). After the cruise was over, I was going to fly to Greece for my friend's Wedding and then fly back home. Tentatively this specific trip will be re-booked for late 2021 pending covid. It also may not be a cruise. Maybe Santa will join me. It's looking like the only trip I'll get to make in 2020 is to Las Vegas for a friend's Birthday. We're going to see the Raiders 1st MNF game in Las Vegas. It's Not Europe, but they have the Paris Hotel.
Secret Santa has been such a positive experience for me I have continued on to participate in other exchanges. I hope my story can encourage others to be generous because you never know who you will meet, what kind of connection you will make, or what one small or big gesture can mean for someone!
