Why was shipping so expensive?

Did I get gipped or am I just dumb? Iām shipping from Washington DC area to FL. I had a box that was 1lb and 4oz and it cost me about $11. The lady told me it was priority mail. Was there any way I could have spent less? I feel like $11 from DC to FL is too much.
I looked at shipping tips and maybe I should have mailed it in a bubble mailer instead of a box. Anyone have any other tips with mailing??
