I feel bad for people that are out of work, but at the same time, The sooner Sansar goes away the better for SL things will be. Sansar has been a drain on LL resources, and I don't thinking it was ever going to succeed because it (and other VR worlds out there now) lacks critical features to these kinds is things.

VR is awesome (I have a headset of my own) and yes I do want something like SL in VR, but as far as I can tell, it's not gonna be Sansar or VRChat. The only platform I think has a chance at the moment is Facebook's Horizon, which makes me sad because ... Well Facebook.

Whatever the next big virtual world is going to be, I will predict that it will at a minimum it will have:

In world content creation tools -needed to rapidly create a boat load of content to attract users. You can't rely on digital artists to create content for a platform with no users. The ability to create content is the only compelling thing to do in a new empty world.

In world economy/IP -needed to pay/incentivize/reward content creation. I know they are trying to avoid this because once money is involved, the regulators show up. But I can't think of how you could even possibly expect users to log in, make beautiful things and just give them away to a for profit corporation.

Mutable/dynamic/persistent spaces- places where things change but also stay changed when you log back in is what makes it feel like an actual place. Communities grow are anchored by a shared place. (VR Chat is broken in this regard because even when you go back to a place, it's a different copy of that place and you aren't likely to bump into the same people again.)

Sex/Adult content- obviously this makes things harder as you have to exclude kids or partition things off, but let's be real about humans for a minute. We generally speaking, like sexy. If one platform doesn't accept this, it's going to get wrecked by a platform that does.

I think these things are completely critical to the success of the next big thing. SL, for all its warts and wrinkles has all of these things. the only thing it doesn't have, is a VR friendly user interface.
