I am getting a degree in Education and will be a teacher in the next year or so. I want to volunteer for SAR, but I will never get a teaching job if I need a substitue teacher once a week.
Is it possible to have this career and still volunteer for SAR? Have you ever seen a 'summer only' position?
Not sure if it matters, but I am in the US near Salt Lake City, Utah. The team near me has about 100 rescues per year.
Edit: You are all giving me a good feeling! Thanks for all the input! I will reach out to the office and see what they say!
We have seasonal SAR volunteers! They only respond in the summer.
Our policy is that members must have a 1/3 attendance rates across all meetings, trainings, and calls. Meeting and trainings are in the evenings to accommodate typical work schedules.
Your local group will have their own policies and requirements!
