The ski has below 20 hours on it and almost became a charred ball of plastic.
Took it for a spin, handed it off to my buddy and it wouldn’t start for him. Swam it back and took the seat off to see it bellowing smoke and on fire on the left side of the motor. I put it out and disconnected the battery.
The positive cable to the starter was not fully bolted on allowing the cable to wobble back and forth creating a bad connection and generating heat. The locking nut was barely threaded onto the starter stud.
We bought a brand new one in 2020 that lasted all of 3 min before throwing a rod. Seadoo took care of it as a manufacturing problem and gave us a new one, (this current seadoo). Since brand new it’s had a slow start condition that we had them look at! Told us it was normal for slow starts and didn’t dig into it. I work on cars and should have dig deeper but hey I thought they were the experts.
All I can think of that would cause this is piss poor Quality Analysis and Covid manufacturing quality as companies tried to push stuff out asap.
Seadoos terrible assembly quality and Bad QA almost cost me a seadoo and some burnt legs. Hopefully I can get away just with a new cable/freshly charged battery and not a starter.
So frustrating.
