You guys are amazing! I have an unhealthy amount of respect for you guys. Some of you have been posting pictures of your tools and tables and I am always amazed at the amount of things you need to know. I often feel that you guys don't get much recognition and you guys deserve all the recognition you deserve. You guys make a lot of income for the hospital and you should all get paid more than you currently are.
As a Cath lab scrub tech I know the joys of scrubbing, dealing with the table, knowing all of your tools and how to set them up, teach students and new staffs with no compensation, keep eyes outside of the sterile field, and above all else keep the doctor happy and admit their mistakes as your own 🙃. You really must have eyes on everything at the same time and the fact that you can do that makes you special and you should be very well recognized.
When I went to a surgery last month I wanted to meet my scrub tech because I was just star struck because I love all that you guys do. I unfortunately never got to meet her but I saw her table and I loved her set up and all of her tools.
I have often thought about going into the OR and being a scrub tech there but the only thing keeping me from pursuing it is the income. It makes me sad to know you guys don't get as compensated as you should for everything you do. My coworkers in the Cath lab know that we know absolutely nothing about the OR and we could never do what you guys do. We are always surprised when we see the immaculate tables in the OR when we have to do hybrid procedures. You guys really are an essential part of the health field.
