I'm (re)writing a sci-fi/superhero/modern horror story.
I've written huge chunks of it in first person, third person limited, and third person omiscient points of view and I can't settle on one.
On one hand, the first person has been more relatable to the readers who feel like they have to hide their true nature's from the rest of the world around them. I've gotten fanatic reviews from friends.
Limiting to one person's point of view means the other main characters have no voice unless they narrate their own stories.
I certainly want a Film Noir aspect to this and I do intend to animate. Should I (and my children ages 10, 12, 16, and 22) write it in first person or third? If third, limited or omniscient?
Maybe have separate titles, each narrated by their character and feature theChancery? Like Chaucer?
Minor deets below:
My main character is a (medically) retired soldier who was gifted a box from an agent in an unnamable government agency (my character wasn't allowed to know the agency he worked for) and he held onto it until many years later, when he was injured and processing out of the military.
The contents of this box bestowed upon my character an amazing ability - a kind of technomancy. There was a small, mechanical spider inside and it crawled up to the based of his skull and burrowed in.
My character began noticing wireless, computerized devices just seemed to work better for him. He began experimenting with building devices and fashioned an armored exosuit.
Happening upon a suicidal man who was suffering from leukemia, my character gifted the man a toned-down version of the spider - one which would attack the cancerous cells and make his pain more bearable.
Feeling good, my character took up the role as vigilante. He was going through a divorce and was retaining full custody of his children so he didn't want to take his abilities outside his community - even though there were notable superheroes and even governemnt-run super teams.
The leukemia patient didn't wait for his gift to beat his illness as expected. He found a way to hack into his tiny spider and made himself a sort of vampire - extracting marrow from his victims. He built crime syndicate and had both cyborg vampires and purely mechanical drones in his employ.
Meanwhile, my character had one too many brushes with death and retired from his vigilantism to raise his kids. When they were older, he refactored his suit and again went out fighting crime - this time as a side-kick for hire to super heroes maintaining that he needed anonymity and not to have a full time gig. He still had to work and support a family.
Except his teenage daughter found the box and hacked in herself, secretly building out her own suit of armor and identity. She joined the local super hero team and dad ended up being assigned as her sidekick - neither knowing the others' identities.
Crime syndicate guy surfaced and lure a the two of them in so he could either take theolir tech or make them his generals in a war against super heroes.
