Is it possible to defeat jamming during a space battle by firing a laser cone in the direction of the enemy ship? The idea being that you increase the thermal signature of the ship relative to the background signature. Then you are able accurately target the ship to destroy it. This idea just popped into my head while reading a sci-fi book where one fleet was racing to the rescue of another but couldn’t get through the enemy jamming to help. I could just as easily imagine it not being possible to generate enough energy to warm a ship up to a detectable level.
Concise answer: No.
Longer answer: Jamming is not that good. It's especially not that good at all ranges and at all frequencies and for all applications so unless you WANT to go the Star Wars Route where jamming is the reason for short range engagements the narrative role of jamming can be seen as closer to an evasive maneuver than a passive Don't Touch Me field.
