Sci Fi Based On Soft Sciences?

Post Body

So, I have had an idea on the back of my mind lately. When people hear the term sci-fi, they think of aliens, spaceships and laser guns.

I've been toying with a concept based on the social sciences like anthropology, psychology and linguistics. There could still be speculative technologies, but they aren't the focus on the story or its setting, being relegated to the background.

I'm imagining scenarios like an astronaut landing on a planet to make contact with indigenous Stone Age aliens, for example, and they learn each other's ways.

Where are your thoughts on this?

Yeah honestly sci-fi as being exclusively tech porn post-dates the first Gulf War.
