Sci fi people, welcome. I've got a few new points to add to a previous idea that used wormholes for interstellar travel. The idea of wormholes is an old one but I hope I can make it a tad bit spicier.
In my last post the wormholes were used to travel to different dimensions. Still can but the aliens will be in ours as well now. Thus the wormholes can go anywhere in space. No matter the distance.
Regularly, wormholes are unstable. They're to small to use and as space and time are fused will also make you travel through time. Except when you use a breakdown crystal. It is matter capable of stabilizing wormholes, turning it into what I'll call the rift gate.
These gates can make it so you only travel through space. You can go any distance but the further out you go, the greater the risk. If you are aiming for a solar system, the parent star's gravity will interfere with your opening and you'll be spit out on the surface of that star. However, this is remedied if there is a separate gate yours can connect to. Then you'll be alright.
Secondly, you can never open these gates on your planet. It'll fuck up the magnetic field royally and that doesn't end well for anyone. So species usually build the gates on their moons.
Thirdly, how you obtain this crystal. It is found in wormholes. So by generating one of your own and crossing it with a naturally existing one, the crystals should simply fall out. Though that takes finding one and even the best guys that can do so will take some time. The wormholes are always opening and closing in different places.
Lastly, never, ever take a breakdown crystal through a rift gate. You'll destabilize the whole thing and you do not want to be inside when it crashes on your head.
That's about it. The breakdown crystals can be used for more but I still have those ideas in shop. I hope you like this one.
