Looking for a specific type of sci-fi book.

I'm looking for something more plot driven or a book that focuses on the story.
I tried googling some series but it seems intent on recommending handmaid's tale, 1984, animal farm etc etc. I'm looking for a more casual read that isn't so 'deep'.
