With all this talk from the US Congress and UFO whistleblowers that most of us don't have time for, it got me thinking about a book I read years ago and no longer have, but now my ADHD brain is refusing to let it go.
The book was written in maybe the 70s or 80s? I think? It definitely had that cheap paperback feel to it. It wasn't very long, maybe 120-200 pages (ish). It had a green cover (like that anemic pale green), I think. The cover illustration was obviously hand drawn, like colored pencil and not very awesome haha.
The premise was that a contingent of extraterrestrial folks landed on earth to announce that they were ending humanity for being really poor stewards of the planet, and that they'd given us enough chances to get off our asses to do something about things like climate change, pollution, habitat loss, etc. They weren't scary or evil, just diplomatic/bureaucratic. And they told like a random dude who I believe tried to convince them to give us another shot, which they were really hesitant to do.
Does anyone have any clue what book this might be? I'm counting on fellow nerds to have also read this at some point haha.
TIA!
Edit: ChatGPT for the win. Thanks to the commenter who inadvertently gave me the idea. The book is The Visitors by Clifford D. Simak, 1980.
