Some blind people have developed extraordinary proficiency in echolocation using mouth-clicks, similar to bats. These mouth-clicks used by blind expert human echolocators were analyzed by scientists in the first ever description of the beam pattern of these transmission to navigate around objects.

I'm an orientation and mobility specialist - I teach people who are blind and visually impaired to travel while remaining oriented using adaptive skills and techniques. While this is a cool concept and an interesting one to be sure, echolocation is impractical for these purposes for the vast majority of the population I work with, both young and old.
