Heavy gear question - shield basket required with gauntlets?

Greetings! I am just coming back into SCA with the family after an extreme hiatus, and this time around I am getting my own heavy gear together. I have a shield on order(escutcheon), and also a pair of gauntlets (hourglass Francais finger gauntlets from hbcarmorshop).

When looking at attaching handles and such to the shield, the riveting question (heh) is whether or not I need a basket to cover the shield hand, as a requirement. The gauntlets are metal on leather, but the inside of the hand is •not• covered by metal...
