Returning to playing after 20 years
Post Body

Just getting back into playing for the first time since I graduated high school. I went shopping for a sax and ended up pulling the trigger on this Vito VSP stencil which is an 800 series Yanagisawa that looks like it was not touched since it left the factory in 1980. For the mouthpiece, I went with a Guardala Super King, selmer ligature and Alexander Superial DC 2.5 reeds. I started playing some blues scales and within a few days I feel like I’m right where I left off 20 years ago, except now that I can afford nice gear, I sound GREAT. If I sounded this good in high school I probably never would have stopped playing. Playing the horn from top to bottom feels effortless and intonation is no problem. The horn I played in high school was terrible and I didn’t know it because it was the only horn I ever played.
