Savannah - First Impressions!
Post Body

Howdy ya'll! So, Savannah's been on my to-visit list for ages, mostly because I love old architecture and ya'll still have plenty of that. Had an excuse to visit a friend from college I haven't seen in over a decade. And for the first time since Pre-COVID I had just enough set aside for a brief vacation.

Despite the overbearing heat/humidity of the past week, I got to spend all of Tuesday and most of Wednesday strolling around "Old" Savannah to the Southern tip of Forsyth and had quite the pleasant experience!

Recommended foodie-highlights from here and my friend, that I thoroughly enjoyed:

"The Green Truck Neighborhood Pub" - which I will certainly visit again. Had a rather nice pimento cheeseburger. (Pimento Cheese is in NOTORIOUSLY short-supply in Ohio)

"Narobia's Grits & Gravy" - Dear LORD, this was an unexpectedly heavy breakfast, with the absolute most excellent biscuits and gravy I have ever had the privilege to consume.

"Boomys" - for some unexpectedly quality spring rolls and fried dumplings.

"Lulu's Chocolate Bar" - for some decadent pies and confections and a fancy-ass, chocolate-peanut butter something martini which was liquid heaven.

"The Water Witch" for some rather pleasant carribean-inspired cocktails

"The Little Duck Diner" - which was my final stop before heading home yesterday morning.

"Leopold's" which does indeed have a history, but has since turned into a massive tourist trap apparently. Still, decent ice cream if WAY too crowded, at least when I dropped in.

Also, did my usual "local-history", self-guided with the assistance of Wikipedia tour and dropped by your small, but informative City History Museum.

VERY IMPRESSED on how city engineers have managed to actually keep things walkable, without destroying all of your squares, which in cooler weather seem to be a great place just to chill with a book. Savannah has a fairly laid-back vibe, and lil ole, scrub-looking me wasn't getting any of the negative vibes I get from places like Chicago, where everyone seemed to be in a hurry and anti-social.

But yeah, all in ALL I just wanted to let you know I thoroughly enjoyed your slice of history town, despite the political situation in Georgia not too my personal tastes. (Ohio ain't much better, BELIEVE ME) Next time I plan on renting a car and doing the State Parks and Waterways thing - hopefully not in the blazing Summer heat.
