I'm pretty new to Satanism and, as such I have been reading the Satanic Bible on .pdf.
Almost immediately I found the following quote:
"I request reason for your golden rule and ask the why and wherefore of your ten commandments."
As an ex-Catholic, I understand questioning the ten commandments, but why the golden rule? I understand that there are exceptions to every rule, but why does LaVey challenge the idea that we should generally treat others as ourselves? After all, versions of the golden rule are present in every major religion on the planet, including Confucianism, Taoism, Islam, etc. It seems to be a universal piece of wisdom that everyone (including me) seems to agree with. Why take issue with it?
