My friends are tired of hearing me go on about AI and its inevitable impact on our society over the next decade. While they understand my enthusiasm, they don't understand my "ontological shock". I don't think they yet fully appreciate how AI is changing the nature of what is knowable. I'll explain with an example...
A few moments ago, I was scrolling reddit (as usual hehe), and I see an advertisement for an AI dating filter "guaranteed to optimize your look for dating success!". Of course we have all seen these types of things by now, but the quality of AI filters has improved to the point of becoming weapons of mass reality distortion. Everyone has (or will) quickly become accustomed to virtually believe nothing they see or hear. Plenty has been said about the psychological impact of being constantly bombarded with the faux perfection continuously streamed across our dopamine screens, so I won’t add to that here. But of course we Sapiosexuals are awakened and not so susceptible to the cheap psychological string pulls (or are we?), so we pat ourselves on the back for our ability to know that some things are unknowable. And we go back to scroll some more, feeding our choicest AI optimized echo chambers with the vital fuel (upvotes, views and clicks) they need to sustain peak ad revenue.
But of course, sapiosexuals ARE DIFFERENT. We were never looking for perfection in the senses because such perfection doesn’t exist in physical reality. The mind though, is a different beast. The mind can conceive of a perfect circle that defies the constraints of the universe. I’m not saying that we are immune to the human mass hysteria which will follow the coming AI takeover of social media, but at least we come well prepared to share some great dialog in the wake of our society’s techno-social demise 🤓. We will in fact thrive because we are looking for something real in a field of machine generated noise.
