What fish can live in small outside tanks with our climate?
Post Body

Howdy all, I was lucky enough to get a free 40 gallon fish tank but there's not a lot of room in my house so I'm thinking about putting it outside. I think with a tank on the smaller size compared to what most people use for outside water features, I have to be especially careful about fish that can survive temperature changes, so does anyone have any experience successfully keeping smaller tanks outside?

I would prefer to get multiple smaller fish as opposed to things like koi or goldfish that will get big, though that might be the best option. I already have some danios and platys that live inside and if either of those would survive I'd love to move them there and get them some more friends. Thanks for any help you can give me!

EDIT: Also, I know the county used to give out free mosquitofish but their website hasn't been updated since 2019. Does anyone know anything about that? Mosquitofish would be a good solution!
