I've been successfully crabbing a few times around SF (e.g. Baker Beach, China Beach) with hoop nets that I drop off my SUP. I'd love to go closer to home but am not sure where are good places to crab in Santa Cruz (when it's the season). I guess I'm looking for a spot with a not-too-difficult entry, a sandy bottom, and - of course - crabs. I was thinking Cowells so long as I get seal / sea-lion proof bait boxes? Any other recommendations? I'll assume I have to wait for a calm day without any swell (especially if going to a beach with any real exposure).
