I've been an Android user forever. I got the G1 when it first came out. Since then I've had a few older versions of Pixels and currently my phone is an s23 which is my third Galaxy, I started with the S20 or s21, forgot which.
I like my phone and have no major issues with it other than the voice to text is absolute shit. And I use that a lot because typing more than a few words is really slow with thumbs and of course if I'm driving or otherwise have my hands occupied, voice to text is or at least it should be an equal substitute.
- Sometimes it doesn't even pick up what I'm saying even though the indicator is on, or it will miss words in the middle of a sentence
- often it'll capitalize random words (not proper nouns) and the ADHD in me has to correct it, that's a personal problem
- sometimes it'll be seriously delayed where I'll say something and it'll take several seconds to spit out the words which is a problem because of course as above sometimes it doesn't even pick up what I'm saying so if it's delayed I will usually think it's not going to do anything
- and many times a day it will transcribe the wrong word, for example it never recognizes "pull" and always types "pole". I've tried different annunciations even put on fake accents, nothing. It will also type out "question mark".
I've tried to clear caches, I've tried to reinstall whatever needs to be installed, I've tried switching from Google to Samsung and back and forth, I've tried speaking really slowly and loudly. It sucks because whatever I do I almost always need to manually go in and make changes to the text, which that alone is super annoying to position at the right spot change a letter change a word, etc.
It was not nearly as bad as my S22.
Is this a hardware issue and does anyone aware if the new pixels are in Improvement in this area?
Does anyone have suggestions as to what other steps I can take to improve my phone's voice to text performance?
Lastly, side note, it would be amazing if there were some AI built into voice to text so at least some of the weird outputs could be avoided if there was some processing built into the transcribing.
