Galaxy S4 IR blaster not working after software update?

I just got a new software update, which as far as I can tell changed nothing except for capitalizing the day and month indicator in the notification screen and adding a brand new suite of bloatware to make for even less space and functionality for my phone. Along with that however it seems that the ir blaster has stopped working, has anyone else experienced this? I'm hoping yes, because I can't find a fix anywhere. If I could I'd have thrown the damn thing out months ago and never touch a Samsung product again, but unfortunately money is tight and the OnePlus1 orders are still closed.
