Buying my first baitcasting setup
Post Body

Hey guys!

After getting everyone else presents, I thought I'd splurge a bit for myself.

Budget is $300 but a bit more within reason would be fine.

I've used spinning my whole life and have been wanting to get my first baitcaster, never used one before and none of my buddies own one. I usually in South Texas (saltwater, Corpus Christi) if it matters. I'm looking for something to use on pier / surf occasionally. Targeting Red, Flounder, and Black Drum as of late. I'm wanting something that can handle that and the occasional trip more north for freshwater bass.

I've been eyeing the Lew's tournament speed spool LFS series, mainly because I just think it looks nice. I've never bought a reel as all my stuff was passed down from my dad, and I've never had an issue with his Penn Pursuit 2 combo.

I heard Abu Garcia and Shimano were good options, but most people prefer Shimano or Lew's? I read that Lew's were more forgiving with getting dirty than Shimano, that's why I've been eyeing the tournament LFS.

I know it's probably expensive for a beginner baitcast rod but I wanted something I wouldn't regret "cheaping out" on later.

Any advice is greatly appreciated in advance. Thank you!
