Post Body

I’m switching careers and don’t have any point of reference regarding salary comparisons. My background is: BS MS in aerospace engineering for top ranked state schools Full secret clearance 5 years experience for two large defense contractors Currently making 130k in Florida total pay

New gig is for a medium sized company, have been around since 1960s. Tech revolves around optical diagnostic equipment for manufacturing centers. It’s remote with 30-40% travel.

Through end of 2024 I will receive 130k fixed (monthly installments) When the year turns I will receive 100k base 2% commission on anything I sell. If I don’t sell anything based on the recurring services I should make 120k, I estimate OTE will be 130- 150k. Benefits are the same as defense contractor full health 401k etc

Should I hold off and wait for a company that has more potential to offer more from the get go or should I go for it and learn from the guy who is retiring in 3 years? I will be receiving training from them, they have 30 yoe in the field

I appreciate any advice, apologies for the long message and for any missing information.
