Breaking into Sales from a tech background and a career break…

Post Body

So I’m coming off from a career break of two years of doing voulteer work, within the organization I was doing the voulteer work for, appointed me as one of their organizational representative, which one must have a high-rated level of speaking, which had me traveling around the country speaking to people with over 5000 attendees and teaching them. I also have been teaching people public speaking for 10 years

Before that, I worked in tech for 5 years as a UX designer.

And prior to that, I started a web design company to help me gain experience in tech. Which was successful, but ended up getting tired of working for myself and wanted to work for a team instead.

But now that I’m off of my career break, I’ve realized I strongly don’t want to go back into UX Design.

After brainstorming for some weeks for a career change, a buddy recommended me to get into sales. I told him I had no sales experience, but he pointed out how I made a company and did hunting, cold calling, established a territory, formed great sales relationships, closed deals, negotiated, and many other sales-related things. I didn’t notice because the core of my business was designing websites.

That conversation I had with him, made me extremely excited to get into sales. I love talking to people, I know how to talk to people, and if I believe in the product I can sell it. So I’ve been researching like crazy sales positions and focused on local manufacturing companies, figuring this would be the easiest way into an outside sales role. I’ve been networking and applied for a lot so far. With ALL THAT SAID, do you think I have a shot? I strongly want to get into sales now, and kinda obsessed with the idea of getting trained and making some crazy money in some years 😆. I would love for some of you to review my resume if you have the time! Thanks for taking the time to read!

PS I’m located in Northern California.
