I'm on an Engineering forum. I work with a very niche software library (and I'm likely the only person there experienced with it). Recently someone asked for some advice about it and whether XYZ is possible, and I gave a detailed answer outlining what else he needs to installed on top of this application and what needs to be done to get custom features.
Since then he made a job posting using the advice I gave him. I'm literally the most qualified person to execute this but I'm concerned I might not have a bargaining position if I reach out to him saying I can do it. Do I just sit and wait and hope he remembers me to send me a direct message? It's okay if I don't get the project but I'm looking to close at a good price. I'm fairly sure nobody else will reach out to him.
My concern is that if I send him a message, it might make it look like I don't have any other project going on and it might give him the opportunity to lowball me. On the other hand, if he initiates contact with me, I feel that somehow puts me at an advantage.
Am I overthinking this?
