I am looking for a nice inexpensive radar setup for the boat (I know that several of those terms do not go together). Do any of you have a preference? I am toying with the Garmin plotter/radar setup, but it would mean tearing out my great 540s for the 740s (expensive to do and maybe not worth it) I am also looking at the Raymarine c80 display and dome, and in a different direction the non-color Furuno 1625. I actually like the idea of having the unit be separate from the GPS (if one breaks you have the other), but you don't get color on the standalone unit from Furuno (does this really even matter at all?). If I could sell my 540s I think the Garmin would probably make sense as a package (It does not require a "Sounder Unit" like the Raymarine). Any experience or thoughts?
