A type of controlled jibe is when you turn the boat downwind:
a. and luff, then heel it to windward so the boom will come across.
b. sheet in the main, pull the tiller sufficient to jibe the main and let the main out in a controlled manner.
c. until the boom comes across.
d. tell your crew how to sit just and sheet the jib just so, flog them for motivation, scream ‘jibe ho’ at the top of your lungs and pull the tiller over like you mean it.
