I’m flying soon for a weekend sailing (JWorld finally!). I’d like to bring my own pfd, but it’s one of those spinlock deckvest lite with the automatic inflating from CO2 cartridge. Can someone guide me on whether this is accepted on airplanes? I could check a bag, but for a short trip was hoping to avoid it. Is this pfd allowed as carry on luggage?
Thank you! Trying to avoid asking the tsa people, they will think I’m silly to fly with my own life jacket :-(
Edit: https://imgur.com/a/T7J34pY apparently American Airlines does not allow these for carry on :-( …but how would they know? Only TSA is checking the carryon contents
I did this years ago. Printed the airline’s rules that said it was OK. Round trip flight, so I was with the same airline and same rules coming and going.
They made me throw out my CO2 cartridge on the way there but had no problem on the way back.
Airport security is Security Theater. The rules are mostly arbitrary and are not enforced consistently.
So…yes…look up the rules, print them out, have them with you. But be prepared for the TSA and/or airline to ignore their own rules and make you throw your cartridge away.
