My wife rolled my Saab 900 turbo multiple times in a grassy median when she had to avoid a crash in front of her. She was late so I'm sure she was going over 70, neither her or our daughter were wearing their seatbelts and it was made before the Saab 900's had airbags. When they stopped they were upside down with the roof supporting the car, my wife looked over and asked my daughter if she was okay and reached up and turned off the engine, daughter said "I bumped my head" then they both crawled out. Daughter had a lump on her head, wife bruised her leg on the stick shift and broke a nail. Saab was totalled but not in terrible shape, although they did break all the windows. I will always be grateful for that Saab giving it's life to protect my wife and daughter and for the engineers at Saab for designing them so well. I know they designed them to protect the occupants in case the car were to hit a full grown elk at highway speeds. I also think their 250 pound rating for a load on the roof is very conservative. That was a few Saab's back and I'm not sure what I'm going to do when my 93 900 CE (#43) reaches its end.
