I have a 2007 9-3 2.0T with 192k miles. Yesterday the car would crank but the engine would not turn over and start. AAA came out and verified my battery is good and healthy. I hit the starter with a hammer and the car started up. I drove it home.
Today did an oil change on the car (she was overdue for it) and she starts right up without any issues. (Engine turns over in 2 seconds or less). Should I still replace the starter at this time or could this have just been a fluke? As far as I know, the starter has never been changed. TIA!
Update: Car is having problems starting again.I turn the key and hear a ch ch ch sound (kind of like a train) but the engine does not start. I did notice the clock on my radio reset.I have a feeling this is a clue. But being a novice mechanic who's been up since 5am, I don't know what it means.
2nd update : I replaced the starter and all is well. Thanks everyone for your help! ☺
