I lost touch with Rush after Power Windows except for the occasional songs that made it to the radio. Still liked those, but I really hadn’t listened to any of the later albums.
I’ve been working my way through as I listen to Geddy’s book. So I listened to the part about Vapor Trails before I heard the album.
On the first listen I was hearing it through the lens of all the challenges that were described in creating that music. So it sounded chaotic and noisy and tentative, but then I listened again.
Holy crap.
I am finding as an older fan that the later albums are taking me some repeated listens to process their musical language. So far, Counterparts has been far and away my favorite. But VT is slapping me upside the head.
