I think most of us are familiar with the dominion tower (if so feel free to skip towards the My Experience header). It being a tower where you fight against quest bosses from quests you've completed. While it has been released almost a decade ago, its rewards are actually still relevant(ish). The dominion mines see usage at Solak and EDs while the dreadnips can be used in instances where bosses are stunnable, and where you want a small increase in DPM. Besides that, its achievements are used for the completion of the desert tasks. For both the dreadnips (but mostly) the achievements the climber mode is used to gather the reward currency(dominion factor) the fastest.
To quote the wiki:
"Climber allows the player to ascend through the levels of the tower, facing a randomly chosen boss scenario on each floor. The maximum number of rounds in this mode is 249. After each victory, an effect will be applied and will persist through all subsequent fights in that attempt. While a few of these will be beneficial, most of them will be handicaps. Players will be able to replenish food and change equipment between fights. The player accumulates dominion factor for winning, which can be used at a rewards chest to claim rewards. Losing a fight reduces the player's dominion factor."
So by being on a winning streak you're able to accumulate more and more dominion factor. While losing will leave you with a lot less of the factor you had accumulated.
However, doing the dominion tower just feels like a huge chore, and waste of time. While the tower allows you to fight your past enemies from quests, it actually punishes you in this regard as some bosses can be defined as either "run-ending bosses" or "runtime-extending bosses". The former being able to stop your streak due to their difficulty and your handicaps, and the latter extending the time you're in the tower due to the time it costs you to defeat them. Seeing as you can fight only those bosses you've fought from your own quests, the best thing to do would be to enter the tower whilst only having done the easiest bosses. But this punishes you for doing a lot of quests, so should this be the "meta"?
My Experience
I've done the tower on two accounts for a total of over 2500 kills. On my maxed main for the MQC, and the second time with my HCIM. For the former I've had all the possible bosses unlocked, while I was careful with doing quests on the latter which led to a "curated" list of quests. This led me to the following list of enhancements/changes.
Speed up the interfaces and fight transitions. It makes no sense for the interfaces to act as if it is random while the result has already been determined. With my HCIM I reached floor 60 pretty consistently for all my runs, so I just wanted to skip to the next fight, yet I had to go through the process of the game "randomly" showing you what boss you will get next. Please make this skippable just like the taunt scenes, victory scenes and the handicap chooser. The game already knows what your next boss will be anyway since you can exit the "next opponent" screen by queueing an ability to force-exit that screen (while it is acting like it is randomly picking one) and running towards the stairs. Just allow the fighter to get on with the grind.
Please stop showing me that I have all handicaps after floor 30. At that point I've had to click the confirmation screen about 7 times already, I'm fully aware that I have all the handicaps, so again let me just go on with the fighting. After floor 23 youāre also 100% in the possession of the āMonster stunā handicap, so if you made a mistake you can just lobby at the start of the fight and fix it. The screen does not really serve a purpose.
Give people skip or nudge options when choosing the bosses, based on their quest point total. This is something that would've made the experience on my main better. While my HCIM could get 1 million factor, the record on my main was about 350k factor. If I'm able to re-roll certain bosses on floor 31 it would've allowed me to push on just a little bit more. Maybe give 1 skip for every 100 quest points you have, that way run-enders could be avoided due to your diligence when questing. The option to re-spin/skip is already available for the handicaps so why not carry it over?
If a boss doesn't work with the mechanics of the tower, it has no reason to be in the tower in the first place. One of the handicaps in the tower is the monster stun, this stuns the boss at the start of the fight for a short while. However, there are two bosses that consistently don't care about it. Treus Dayth and The Illusive. Treus has a random chance to vanish upon hitting him(even while stunned), which leads to you just standing and chilling there till he reappears. The Illusive is even worse and just dives as soon as you target it and shrugs the effect off afterwards. The Black Knight Titan adjusted itself to the tower (no excalibur needed), so why can't they?
If a mechanic of the tower doesn't work with a mechanic in the game, it should not be in the tower. At the end of the fight the tower drains all my adrenaline, even though I am attuned to the Persistent Rage relic. The rage relic even works in the Wilderness so why is the Tower an exception (Iām assuming this is due to the tower code that always restores HP, prayer and adrenaline to certain values no matter the circumstances)?
Allow the super/extreme dominion medallion to have more teleports per day. Right now it has a three teleports per day with the extreme medallion having five. In my opinion the extreme needs unlimited teleports. Killing 1600 bosses in rumble mode deserves more of a reward than just 5 teleports a day. If the extreme would get adjusted it would allow the super to have some room for more teleports.
Please remove Sigmund from the tower, for the love of Jove. Nothing is so anti-fun as building to 100% adrenaline eight times just to remove Sigmunds protection prayer because you have a Tier 15(yes, 15) weapon. On that note, this is obviously a subjective request and should not be taken as seriously as the ones above, but please review some of the bosses. A lot of them are really anti-fun such as Sigmund, Char, Pest Queen and Dawn (what they have in common is their mechanics being time-gated, wait till x happens or y takes place. Apep has this mechanic too but at least he doesn't take 20 seconds, it's simple, it's short and it can be dealt with). Again a re-spin or nudge mechanic would work wonders for these if taking them out is not an option.
I've also encountered a few bugs that some JMod might want to squish:
The beneficial handicap ālife saverā does not proc when fighting delrith and tanking his incineration attack.
For some reason Cyrisus can come help you with non-dream mentor related bosses, this one is pretty funny, but I can't seem to be able to reproduce this consistently.
Less of a bug, you might want to change up Elvarg. If you don't have super anti-fires and you lack the monster stun handicap and the life-saver handicap, whilst having the no-shield handicap, he's nearly impossible to do on a low-medium(T40-T60) level.
Also less of a bug, if you reach 1m dominion factor the reward chest can become too saturated so to say.
