Expo & 5K Experience

Post Body

Since I know some people were curious, here’s my personal experience so far this weekend with the expo and 5K. I’ll put one up for the 10K and half too.

Expo: I went yesterday at around 1:00 and drove myself. I had both my bibs and shirts within 15 minutes of being there. Super quick and easy. There’s an area if you have not signed a waiver and they have people that have/have not go two separate ways. You’ll just need your expo pass and ID to pick up your bib. I do wish I exchanged my shirt for the next size down. The arena where all the runDisney merch is was busy, but not really as bad as I’ve seen it before. They were sold out of some things already and I heard them telling some people what was out was all they had left of some other things. They also have self checkout (Shop in Store on MDE) set up for the runDisney merch area. I got a few things and was immediately able to check out in the regular line. We went again this morning to get my husbands bib and they let us in 15 minutes before it started…not sure if it was the rain or they just didn’t really care opening early. We did not go look at merch today, so I have no idea what’s left. There’s areas and a ton of people to help with all the issues that seem to have been popping up, so don’t stress!

5K: I live 10 minutes away from Epcot and left my house at 3:00 this morning. I was there and parked by 3:15 with no line to get in. It seemed like it really picked up right after that though. Everyone was in very high spirits and you could just feel the excitement. There was a DJ and two photo ops (no characters) at the staging area and everything seemed very spaced out. I was s1 and it works exactly the same as corrals did. The corral areas seemed huge, but they really filled up. I can honestly say I think this race was held with a normal amount of runners. There were a few people with masks on, but they are not required. About 15 minutes before the start of the race, they walked our whole group to the start line and starting at 5:00 they started letting waves of us go. I personally think they were smaller waves than normal but I was in the second one to go, so maybe someone a who started later than me could clarify. I was done with the race by 5:30 and could still hear groups being let off. I only saw two character stops and they were both very close to the beginning. I saw what maybe looked like a third, but no one was there. There was one water stop and they were handing out cups of water as usual. It seemed as is all volunteers had masks on. Very quick and easy leaving the race too. I only have two complaints about the race. One is that Spaceship Earth was not illuminated at all which I thought was weird. The other is it seemed like a lot of photographers on the course weren’t ready or where they were supposed to be. I saw a lot of them walking somewhere else or still setting up their equipment. I’m sure the rain had a lot to do with that though.

All in all, it’s been a great weekend and extremely organized so far and everyone seems to be really excited about the return of in person races!

Let me know if I can answer any questions for you!
