I started a subreddit called /r/CharitableBets a while ago.
The idea is that a bet is made (pitting the glory of your team against that of another, calling how many points will be scored in a certain game, who will finish in the top four or anything else you can think of) between two redditors and the loser pays out a pre-determined amount to a pre-determined charity.
It's fun, you get to gloat afterwards and the losers don't really lose - the charities you pick definitely win.
Personally, I'd keep the monetary values low, but higher value bets are acceptable!
The sub has mainly had interest from the American sports crowds so far (/r/NBA and /r/NFL especially) but I'd like to expand it and between rugby being my favourite sport and the Premiership starting again tonight, it seems like a perfect time to tell you all about it.
I'll throw out an opening bet (to be accepted by one person only!) that Saints will win their game tomorrow by 5 points or more. As I said before, low bets for me, so let's say £5 to the charity of the person who accepts this bet.
If there's enough interest, I'll make some other bets too!
btw, I checked with the mods that it was ok to post this (upvotes for visibility would be great - it's only a self-post).
