Is there a package for creating SPSS-style multiple response set variables in R?
Post Body

Hello! I'm in the process of switching my company over from SPSS to R.

We work with survey data and often create contingency tables/crosstabs that include "select all that apply" survey variables. Raw survey data separates these variables into multiple columns; there's a handy feature in SPSS that recombines them. (For example, a question that asks "select the top three most important [whatever]" would produce three variables e.g. important_1, important_2, and important_3; we want these recombined.)

Does anyone know of something similar in R?
