I have to vent about a friendly couple and their "non binary" child
Post Body

I want to rant but not into the ears of regarded right wingers and this is the only somewhat left leaning place on the internet that is still critical of that stuff.

There's this couple I've met in college. I even set the two up. They are a cis man and cis women that insist on being somewhat queer in many ways. Not that I cared. They were cool and nice people. The problem is that they quickly had a kid. It's five now. I say "it" because they decided against giving it a gender. Yes, they refer to it with "they". It will choose its own gender when the time is ripe, they say. Just like others don't baptise their baby, they won't assign it a gender against its consent before it can choose one itself.
They talk to the kid about its feeling about gender on a daily basis. How the fuck would a kid know? It must be creepy for the kid to talk about its sex every day.
Fast forward to last week: My "friends" (I have very little contact with them nowadays) told me that their assigned-male-at-birth (at least by the doctors, if not by its parents) came out as trans. As a girl. They told me how proud they are of it. Children crave being praised and chase that feeling. I wonder if being a lame-ass cis kid would make its parents just as proud. Probably not.

It's all supported and encouraged by our progressive, university-adjacent kindergarten.

There's a lot of feelings that I can't put into words yet, so that's it for now. Poor fucking kid.

Comments

parents who are this invested in their kids gender and/or sexuality, are no better than actual pedophiles.
