Post Body

So, when I first got into D&D it was because my best friend from highschool wanted to play it. He was the DM and I a player. It was a typical newbie game, with rules to learn and mistakes to be made.

Fast forward to a week ago, my same friend is in another state but asks me if I want to join a new game he is homebrewing. I of course say sure, he tells me the plot has to do with the planet suddenly having these portals spawning and anyone that goes hasn't come back. He tells me to make a character that has a reason to go through these portals.

I take a look at the other players and find that they are all mostly interesting races. Gnomes, khalaster, triton, aasimar, a genasi, and a human. Looking at their classes, they have everything already set up. Spellcaster, healers, front lines, only thing I could think of was a rogue, so I made a human rogue. He tells me to roll stats, comes out pretty good. A good dexterity and charisma because I was going swashbuckler, and some points in con to keep me alive. Simple backstory, guy who wants to help wife and child by going through the portal and finding new and exotic ingredients to become a chef and make a living.

First session, meet some of the players, everything goes well. Starting off level 1 and we get through enough that we get to level 2.

Second session we enter a large city with a lot going on. To get to the next location we need to aquire masks since it is covered in poison, and the major guilds in the area have them. I made my character a low ranking member of the merchants guild, and went there with a few members to hopefully get some of these masks.

Here comes the drama. Get to speak with the higher up of the guild. Attractive lady, flirty type, etc. DM asks for a persuasion check when I ask "Maybe we can work a deal for the masks?". I roll really high and that made her really interested in my character. She starts aggressively flirting and I try to tell her he isn't interested, but she's persistent. She gives us a task to deliver a box to someone at a party, and do not open it. While sketchy, we take the quest and begin to prepare.

Next session, we forgot to ask who the receiver of the box was so we have to return. Also one of our members is being stalked and a few other things, but not too important. As we return, I ask if she can keep our member safe from the stalker, and in return she asks for a date with my character. I say no, but as the other players say they could really use the help, I finally agree, but to keep it strictly platonic.

She then takes me to the most expensive tavern in all of this city. They have a area where they have plays and little areas for the higher ups to enjoy them privately. She asks for the most expensive wine for us, and while she is enjoying the time I do a perception checks. I see some symbols along the wall and understand when activated they would cast the spell silent. "Crap" I thought, and tried to dash out of the room. Door is locked, and before I can do anything she casts suggestion and I failed the save. He says it fades to black, but then says she makes my character dance naked to her and she "plays with herself" as I do that.

My character was raped, sexually assaulted, forced to do something sexual without my consent. When he goes back to me he says I wake up in the tavern, no clothes. I tell him I want to see if the box given to us was locked. He says yes and it has a blue glow through the seams. I take it to a wizard college of sorts and pay for them to identify the spell. He tells me it will cast fireball when it opens. I thank the man and unlock it, but keep it closed. I have my character arrive back at the merchant area, sneak as close as he can to the abuser, tap her on the shoulder, and open the box when she sees him.

To sum up the explosion, countless civilians die, the abuser is a higher level person and survives the blast. My character fails the save and it does enough damage that I outright die. He asks me if I want to be revived by the cities clerics and I say no. I then privately message him saying "wtf was that? You raped my character!" A few back and forths later and I find out he wanted to add drama to my character because I made a character with no horrific or terrible backstory. I told him that's exactly why I made him and there are other ways to add drama then rape.

He's my best friend, and he made a mistake. Some of the other players even spoke up about it, and he apologized to all of them. He says he made a mistake and even went outside the idea of a character and promises he won't do it again. I'm currently deciding if I will rejoin or not. He is still my friend and he made a mistake, like a lot of us do. While it was a weird mistake that shouldn't have to happen, I hope he learns from it and makes better choices.
