So, I have made custom characters each time I have played a ttrpg aside from a few pickup games at Origins and Con on the Cob. Honestly, I have had great fun with both custom and pregen. One thing about custom characters though is it seems like there can be big stretches of space (... I mostly play 5e D&D, so...) where I haven't been able to do much with any of my skills and spells/etc. It would be nice to always have the option to just pick a character that sounds appealing knowing that they would likely have a good portion of options relevant to the main adventure and a few just for funzies so that I could just get into the adventure quickly. Also, I'm pretty slow with chargen, so I sometimes want to just skip it to join my co-players in the adventure. I don't much care about balance, but I would like to be able to do more than some talking and some fighting. More interesting actions implied by skills and such just don't come up enough depending on the game, adventure, and/or character build.
Do pregen characters as an option in all campaign/adventure books sound good to you? Maybe some games pregens wouldn't work so well? Thoughts?
